Brittney Ciccone
Brittney Ciccone is a Boston-based painter working across abstraction and the figurative. Her practice spans ten years, a studio at 450 Harrison Avenue, and a body of work held in private collections across the United States and internationally.
She holds a BFA in Painting from the Fashion Institute of Technology and early in her career worked alongside dealers and curators at the Armory Show, Stephen Haller Gallery, and the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in New York. Her work has been featured in New England Home Magazine, Boston Home Magazine, Boston Globe Magazine, and HGTV's Farmhouse Fixer, and has been exhibited at The Other Art Fair Brooklyn, Superfine Art Fair, and Warnes Contemporary Gallery in Brooklyn.
Statement
My work begins in instinct. Whether I am building up layers of mixed media until something transcendent emerges, or closing my eyes and letting charcoal move across linen guided only by what is underneath — the process is always about discovering rather than deciding. The push and pull between what is revealed and what remains hidden runs through every series.
I am drawn to the idea that depth comes not from effort but from attention. Each layer is an opportunity to stay present with what is happening on the surface rather than attached to where it is going. Many of my pieces go through radical transformations before they arrive at what they need to be. That uncertainty is not something I work against. It is the work.
My hope is that when someone stands in front of one of these paintings, they feel something shift — a moment of pause, of recognition, of being met somewhere quiet. If the work creates that space for even one person, it has done what I made it to do.
